Splendour Festival is much more than just a music event.
For a while now, Nottingham has garnered for a decent, annual event to capture the interest of the masses. Splendour Festival fits that gap perfectly with it’s one day event crammed full of fun. From musical acts to Salsa and Spoken Word, there’s something for everyone to enjoy, and much more than just the music!
Salsa with Salsa Bae
A unique outdoor activity, Salsa Bae’s groovy 30 minute dance class is open to anyone and everyone, irrespective of gender, size, age or any other characteristic! Boasting to improve your self esteem and psychological wellbeing, as well as your social skills, this session allows you to forget the outside world and let yourself go with the flow. Dance along to some fabulous tunes and escape the whirlwind of the festival around you. For the competitive people, there’s also a prize for the best Salsa Bae, so get your dancin’ shoes ready to take that prize!
Yoga and Mindfulness
The festival doesn’t have to be full on the entire time. Start off your day the right way with a relaxing and refreshing outdoor Yoga and Mindfulness session. You’ll be in the capable and trained hands of a senior Dru Yoga tutor, Monica, as she takes you through a range of techniques, from basic yoga as well as some key pointers on your health and wellbeing. There’ll be some tips and tricks to take home with you to further your exploration into yoga and mindfulness and continue your journey. Bring your friends, family and kids and have a relaxing session before the festival gets into full swing! Namaste, as they say.
Mrs Mabel Green
A forgotten singer-songwriter from the golden era of soul and Motown, Mabel Green, now living in a council flat in Basford, Nottingham joins the festivals line up. Her life story-turned-show by the BAFTA award-winning Television Workshop Nottingham slumnus, Sheep Soup Productions is known by many, and enjoyed sell out runs across the country. An entirely alternative addition to the fantastic events, you can expect cheekiness, charm, and a whole lotta soul from Nottingham’s very own local celeb.
Rhymes Against Humanity
We’ve all heard of Crimes Against Humanity, but this is Rhymes Against Humanity. An extravegant and excitable East Midlands outfit who will create the most amazing, brand new musicals on the spot, right in front of you. Based entirely on YOUR suggestions and input, audience participation is essential in this non stop joyride of musical hilarity and genuinely clever improv. There are no scripts, no pre-prepared lines, and no planning. It’s all off the cuff, and is improvised music at it’s best, and is DEFINITELY going to have you leaving with a smile!
Spoken Word with Stephen & Friends
One of Nottingham’s longest- running, city centre spoken word events, bringing some of the biggest names in UK spoken word right into the heart of Nottingham. Following the success of last year’s set, poet and rapper Stephen Thomas will be back for another charming performance and we can’t wait to see what he’s got in store.
There is so much to do at Splendour Festival 2019, it’s set to be Nottingam’s biggest event of the year. Check out our preview of the festival in our previous post for more information on the musical line up.
