Premier Inn Portland Street, Manchester

Premier Inn Portland Street is a decent chain hotel, close to the gay village in Manchester.

When making plans to visit the city for an event, I researched the local hotels close to the venues we were visiting. Premier Inn Portland Street came up on top as the best option for us, amongst a sea of other available rooms. With our friends booked into a Hotel literally next door, we felt like we made a decent choice.

Location wise, it’s a mere few minutes walk from the gay village (our reason for visiting), and less than a 10 minute walk from Piccadilly Gardens. The entrance is rather unassuming, and is a side door off of the main road. Thankfully, though, there is clear, lit signage so it’s remarkably easy to find.

Check in was quick and easy – as we had already done this online 48 hours prior to arrival, all that was required was our surname and booking reference, of which we had to hand. Less than 60 seconds later our room keys were activated and a printout presented, with our room number on. Quick and easy, and no staff required.

The room was a Twin room, consisting of a double bed, and a single sofa bed. The room itself was large and had a high ceiling (which might sound like an odd thing to comment on, but it felt as though you were in a very spacious room, something I liked). The bathroom included a bath-come-shower, and the usual amenities you’d expect from a Premier Inn bathroom.
There was a large TV, wall mounted opposite the double bed, with a big desk, on which the tea and coffee facilities sat. To the left, there is an open style wardrobe with several coat hangers (the kind that cannot be stolen by previous guests, thankfully).
A really big window adorns the far wall, under which the sofa bed stands. This allowed a lot of natural light into the room, something I personally liked as it made the room much more open (combined with the high ceiling).

There were a number of plug sockets in the room, meaning charging devices was painless.

All in all, a good Hotel, very close to the centre of Manchester. Despite what other reviewers have written, we didn’t find any issues with our room, the Hotel, staff or other. The room was large and airy, and suited our needs perfectly.

Will definitely return.
